You should connect a computer or mobile device to the extender using WiFi or Ethernet connection:

  • Wi-Fi: On your Wi-Fi enabled device, the Wi-Fi connection manager should be opened. Then connect to the extender network called NETGEAR_EXT and when it will be connected then the client LED light will light solid white.
 
  • Ethernet: Now use an Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port on the extender to an Ethernet port on your computer.
  • Then launch the web browser.
  • Then enter http://www.mywifiext.net. You’ll see the NETGEAR installation assistant displaying
 
  • Then attentively follow the prompts to connect your extender to the Wi-Fi network
  • Now, unplug the extender and shift it to a new location that is about halfway between your router and the area with weak Wi-Fi signals. 
  • Then, the link status LED should be used to choose a spot where the extender-to-router connection is optimum.
 
  • If you don’t see amber or white light on the link status LED, keep moving the extender to the outlets.
  • Lastly, reconnect your computer or mobile device to the new extender Wi-Fi network.

In order to install the Nighthawk 8 stream Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Extender Model:EAX80, here are the simple instructions that you should follow:

  • First and foremost, you need to place the extender and apply power. We advise you to place the extender in the same room as the Wi-Fi router. Note that this proximity is required only during the initial setup process. 
  • Then plug the extender into an electrical outlet. 
  • You should then patiently wait for the power LED to light amber and then turn green. If in case, it fails to light, press the power on/off button on the extender. 
 
  • Then connect to an existing Wi-Fi network in order to extend the range of your Wi-Fi network.
  • Then if your router’s WiFi security has been set to WPA enterprise or WPA2 enterprise, the extender won’t be able to connect to the router. So you will be required to change your router’s WiFi security setting. 
  • The extender can be connected in one of two ways: connect with the WPS.
  • Important note: If your WPS fails to support WEP network security or a hidden SSID network
 
  • Then connect With WPS Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS). For that you should connect to a secure Wi-Fi network without typing the network username and password. If you need help with the WPS button on your WPS-enabled device, you should check the instructions or look for help online. Note that a number of older equipment can’t access the  WPS.
 
  • In order to use the WPS to connect the extender to your WiFi router, you should press the WPS button on the extender.
  • Then you will see the WPS light flickering. Then press the WPS button on the router or access point within a time span of two minutes.
  • When the extender and existing Wi-Fi establish a connection, the WPS LED on the extender will illuminate a solid white light and the link status LED lights. 
  • If in case, the Link Status LED fails to light, try again. If it still does not light look for help online or in the manual.
  • If the router that you have supports the 5GHz band, then your extender will connect to the router’s 5 GHz band the first time you press the WPS button. 
  • If the extender connects to the router’s 5 GHz band, you’ll see that the extender’s Link Status LED and Maximum Throughput LED light will display solid white.
  • If the LEDs fail to light, follow the next step. 
  • Important: If the Wi-Fi router supports the 5 GHz band, repeat Steps 1 and 2 in order to connect the extender to the 5 GHz band. The Link Status LED and Maximum Throughput LED light solid white in order to confirm the connection. 
  • Then unplug the extender and shift it to a new location that is about halfway between your router and an area that has a weak router Wi-Fi signal. 
  • It should be noted that the location you choose should be within the range of your existing WiFi router network.
  • Then use the Link Status LED for helping you choose a spot where the extender-to-router connection is favourable
  • Also, if the Link Status LED fails to light amber or white, the extender should be plugged into an outlet that is closer to the router and try again.
  • You should keep moving the extender to outlets that are located in close proximity to the router until the Link Status LED lights amber or white. 
  • Then take your WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device to the location with a weak Wi-Fi router coverage. 
  • The Wi-Fi-enabled computer or mobile device should be connected to the extended network. Note that the extender uses the same WiFi network settings as your router for its 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz extended networks as for example, if the extender establishes a connection with the router’s 2.4 GHz WiFi band, then the extender will use the router’s 2.4 GHz WiFi settings for both its networks:
 
  • For router 2.4 GHz WiFi network name: MyWiFiextExample 
  • For router 5 GHz WiFi network name: MyWiFiextExample-5G 
  • For Extended 2.4 GHz WiFi network name: MyWiFiextExample 
  • For Extended 5 GHz WiFi network name: MyWiFiextExample
